Artist's Comments

This series of canvas' was based around the story of the Garden of Eden and the theory that it originated as a warning to isralites to not be tempted by Egypt (a country who venerated the snake) and its technology (represented by the apple) for despite it seeming advanced the people there lived as slaves. It should be mentioned that I am not religious (at best i am an agnostic pagan) but i do believe that many religious stories do tell a truth about the human condition. In this instance i feel the story interweaves several key factors that still affect us including our relationship with technology vs nature (and the illusion of progress), our true nature as animals, love and the problems arrising from our self awareness.

If you love the organs then check out the scientific arm of penguin books from the fifties to seventies under the arm of pelican, theres some well nice stuff. Also look at pre 1990's gcse text books.

They have loads in every oxfam bookshop. A lot of them aren't science based but theres always at least a few that are. Plus they never cost more than £2
